MEASURING FOR BLINDS AND VERTICALS

FOR BLINDS BEING INSTALLED INSIDE THE WINDOW CASING

For horizontal type blinds such as mini blinds, cellular shades and 2" woods: Measure horizontally across the top, middle and bottom of the window. Take the smallest measurement. This is your width measurement. Then measure vertically the left, middle and right side of the window. Take the largest measurment. This is your height measurement. These two measurements are the size of the blind to be ordered. For vertical blinds: measure horizontally across the top of the window. Take that measurment. Measure vertically the left, middle and right side of the window. Take the smallest measurement. These two measurements are the size of the blind to be ordered.

FOR BLINDS BEING INSTALLED ON THE WALL OUTSIDE THE WINDOW CASING
For horizontal type blinds: Take the center horizontal measurement and the center vertical measurement of the window. You must add to the vertical measurement however many inches you want the blind to extend past the bottom and top of the window (4" minimum). You must add to the width measurement:however many inches you want the blind to extend past the sides of the window. For vertical blinds: Same as horizontal blinds.

LOOK FOR SITUATIONS THAT WILL AFFECT THE OPERATION OF YOUR BLIND
Situations such as tile and moulding inside the bottom of a window frame can affect the width measurement of a horizontal blind. Usually requiring the blind to be a smaller at the bottom than the rest of the blind. These are called "cutouts". The height and the thickness of the cutout must be noted.Moulding around a sliding glass door or a window can obstrucrt the operation of a blind mounted outside a window frame. Extenstion brackets should be used in these circumstances to bring the blind out from the wall thus avoiding the obstruction.
